PROSPECTUS

 

“Casting Shadows: Dimensional Art” Show & Sale

May 15 – June 9, 2024

Artists Center at the Galen

72-567 Highway 111, Palm Desert, California

 

You are invited to submit your works to the “Casting Shadows: Dimensional Art” Show & Sale at the Artists Center in Palm Desert, California. This is a non-juried member show, and the first 100 pieces will be accepted.

 

TO ENTER

1.   Entry fee: $45 for the first artwork image, $45 for the second artwork image. You can enter up to 2 pieces of art. No fees will be refunded after submission.

2.  Submission Deadline: Friday, April 26, 2024, 4:00 pm PST.

     Submissions will close early if we reach the 100-piece limit.

3.  Who May Apply: Only current members of the Artists Council may apply. (You can join or renew your membership in the show’s entry form.)

 

To submit to the 2024 “Casting Shadows: Dimensional Art” Show & Sale, PLEASE READ THE REQUIREMENTS BELOW, THEN click HERE to submit your entry.

 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

1.   All artworks are for sale, at a price not less than $300 and not more than $8,000. Proceeds from the sale will be split 50-50 between the artist and the Artists Council.

2.   Qualifying Artwork:  Submissions may be in any medium such as glass, metal, ceramics, wood, clay, plaster, mixed-media.

 

Size and Weight Limitations:

 

Sculpture

minimum size 6"H X 6"W X 3”D

maximum size 60”H X 36”W X 36”D

weight cannot exceed 75 lbs

 

Wall-hung work

All artworks must have obvious protrusion(s) from the canvas/board/substrate

minimum size 12”H X 12”W

maximum size 48”HX 48”W

weight cannot exceed 50 lbs

 

Artwork categories:

•Sculpture 

•Assemblage 

•Dimensional Construction 

•Dimensional Work using Collage or Appliqué Materials  

•Functional Art (furniture, bowls, vases, etc)

 

Some artist creations may not fit neatly into any of the above categories and that is okay. Be creative!

 

NOTES:

a. Submission could be under glass in a shadow box

b. Impasto painting does not qualify

c. Artworks cannot be hung from the ceiling 

d. Artworks cannot require electrical connection

e. Artists are responsible for transporting their work into the building and for determining that it will fit through the gallery door

f. Wall-hung artwork must be ready for installation with mounting hardware to ensure it is secure and stable. Please use a hanging wire or cleat if possible. Simplicity of installation will be greatly appreciated.

g. When submitting you will have the option of uploading two images of a single artwork.

3.   Artwork must be verifiably original in concept, design, and execution and submitted by the artist/maker; created independently (i.e., not under direct supervision of an instructor); not commercially manufactured or reproduced or incorporating any item that uses commercially available molds or patterns; not previously exhibited at any Artists Council exhibition. We do not accept AI-generated works for Artists Council eExhibitions.

4.   Artwork must remain at the Artists Center gallery during the entire exhibition, Wednesday, May 15, until Sunday, June 9, 2024. Once accepted into the exhibition, artwork may not be withdrawn or substituted.

5.   Accepted artwork must be reserved by the artist for this exhibition and may not be physically shown elsewhere; price for artwork shown by the artist on-line must match the exhibition sale price. 

6.   Artists accepted to the show will be responsible for one 3-hour volunteer Artist Host shift at the gallery during the run of the exhibition.

7. Placements of the entries are at the curator’s discretion.

 

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Friday, April 26, 4:00 pm PST -- Submissions due

  • Monday, May 13, 9-11 am -- Art drop-off

  • Wednesday, May 15, -- Show opens  

  • Thursday, May 16, from 4 to 6 pm -- Opening Reception

  • Sunday, June 9, -- Exhibition closes

  • Sunday, June 9, 2-4 pm -- Art pick up

 

ART DROP OFF AND PICK UP

1.   Drop off accepted art: Monday, May 13, 9-11 am, at the Artists Center, 72-567 Highway 111, Palm Desert, CA 92260. Artwork must be delivered by the artist or his/her agent (you may ask a friend or family member). Artwork shipped to the Artists Center will not be accepted. The Artists Center cannot provide special handling for artwork.

2.   Sold and unsold art must be picked up at the Artists Center on Sunday, June 9, 2-4 pm, by the buyer or the artist or his/her agent. 

 

LIABILITY

By submitting artwork to the “Casting Shadows: Dimensional Art”, the artist acknowledges and agrees that he/she:

  • Has read and agrees to all conditions of entry.

  • Releases the rights for use of images of his/her artwork in any Artists Council or Artists Center promotional and marketing materials.

  • Is responsible for insurance for his/her artwork. Neither the Artists Council nor its officers, directors, staff, or volunteers, nor anyone connected with the Artists Council, the Artists Center, or this exhibition will be responsible for theft of, loss of, or damage to artwork, however caused.

 

If you have any concerns about your ability to complete the online entry form, we encourage you to enter at least 7 days prior to the deadline, to allow time for you to get technical help. We cannot extend the deadline for anyone who waits until the last days to enter and then runs into technical problems.
