"I first discovered the Artists Center building when I was coming to the desert to escape the long winters in Alaska. I was impressed with the wonderful space for showing art. When the Artists Council took on the huge responsibility of managing the space, I was even more impressed with the shows they offered and the quality of the artists and artworks in the shows.

When I became a member, there were around 220 members, now it is over 700 and growing! That speaks volumes of the quality of the work they do. I have been to openings of shows at the end of September, when it is still rather hot, and found the openings crowded with artists and art lovers alike. The openings only are getting better and more popular.

I love that the Council has brought in the High School students as well. It was wonderful to see the excitement of the LaQuinta HS Culinary Academy, who provided the refreshments for one of the openings, being part of the event. One young student told me she had never been to a “museum” before and she thought it was exciting to see the artwork. The Artists Council's annual Young Artists Exhibition is another important area of community involvement. Presenting the students' work in a professional manner in a gallery setting gives the students the validation that their work is appreciated.

I have enjoyed meeting the many volunteers, who are not artists but who support the Artists Council as well. They get to know us and our art. They serve as important guides to the many visitors to the Artists Center. The art classes offered to the community, old and young, are a wonderful way to give back to the community as well as bringing the community into the Artists Center. For all of the above, I support the work of the Artists Council and value my membership!
